# 22 Discovering Apps

"Droid of the Day" was the app that I downloaded as I have an Android device and this app is a great way to find free apps in the Google Play store. I do like this app and may keep it on my device, but Google Paly also has a good search tool for finding free apps in many categories.  I feel this is kind of a duplicate tool.

#21 Free-for-All

One app that I use quite often is "Flixster" it is a fun app to view all movies opening this week...has a "rotten tomato" review list.   I have my local theaters listed and it shows me what is showing, what movies are coming soon, and times of the showings. It is a handy app to have...
The one app that I do use the most is Pinterest...everyone should become a member of Pinterest,  It is a mobile cookbook, craft book, gardening book, travel book, no matter what your interest is. Need an answer for an everyday problem ? Pin it and you will get your answer....

# 20 Games

I must admit that I am a big fan of "Candy Crush Saga" whether I like it or not....sometimes I wonder why?
I am currently stuck on Level 169...Right now I could use a little luck!!
A couple of other game apps that are fun are: Frozen Free Fall...following the new movie "Frozen" and one that young and old can play is "Pet Rescue Saga"..my 5 year old granddaughter loves this one..
Games are great, but do not spend $$ on getting new lives etc. That takes the fun out of it and could take a lot out of your pocketbook also...

# 19 Hobbies

As an avid gardener, flower and vegetables, I downloaded the "MyGarden" app. I love the plant overview info on any plant you are looking for...Love the pictures of each plant...I will be using this app, as we have a 3 season porch that overlooks my 3 large flower gardens, and I am always looking for a new plant (or plants) to add. Love this app!  Hmm.."Vivino Wine Scanner" app will also be downloaded..I enjoy a good glass of wine while watching the birds fluttering around my flower garden. In my opinion the 2 apps go hand in hand!

#18 Education

As librarians we always want our children to learn and any education apps are always 1st on my list. My husband already uses the "Google Earth" app, he isn't much on learning anything mobile, but he knows how to move around on Google Earth. As a grandmother of pre-school grandchildren I am always looking for something educational. The iStory Books app was a great hit with the grandchildren. For this exercise I downloaded "Little Learners Play & Learn" for my 2 year old grandson and the "10 monkeys Multiplication" for my granddaughter, as she loves to learn!  Now when they ask to play on my Nexus, they can also be learning.

#17 Connecting to Community

"Explore Minnesota" is the app for me. As we love camping, fishing, walking, hiking and bike riding the app has lots to offer. What a great way to find deals, and experiences doing your favorite hobbies. This isn't the only app that interests me. I will be downloading more apps outside my region. I definitely did not realize all these useful apps were available.

# 16 Audio

"SoundCloud" was the app I chose to download. I Love it!!! To try it out I chose to follow "Walking Through Landscape", which fits me perfect, as I love walking in the early mornings with my Mp 3 player and listen to spiritual music. Such a relaxing way to start the day!  I played around with the app, and searching "Trending" is great. If I feel like listening to the blues, country, disco, it is all there. "Sound Cloud" is definitely a keeper!

# 15 Infographics

Having some problems with this app. I downloaded the "i visual Info Touch Lite" to my Nexus. Well that app would not even open....uninstalled it and downloaded the "Infographics Hub" app. Could not get that app to open. Uninstalled, installed again and still would not open on my Nexus...I will move on and come back to this app. and try it again...

#14 Videos

I did download "Vine". I have a cute little story to tell about this app. Awhile back 2 elementary boys came to the Library as I was unlocking the door...they asked if I would do something with them. They explained that they wanted to do a short video with my help. They had their Ipad, and had downloaded the Vine app. Here was their plan....they set up the iPad to record, started acting up in the Library, making noise etc. and my part was to look at them and say shhhhh real loud...they then explained to me what Vine was, showed me some videos that they had done...all pretty harmless!  And that was how I learned about the app Vine!!

#13 Presentations

I am familiar and took a class on Power Point presentations, so do have a little knowledge when it comes to helping a student. It always seemed a little complicated to me....So, I took a look at "Deck Slide Presentations". It does not seem as complicated as the Power Point. And of course the students love the idea that they can put their presentations together on their mobile device. Downloaded the "Cycle Through your story" theme and added some content. Makes a cute presentation!

#12 Books, Books, & More Books

I was interested in the "iStoryBooks" app. I downloaded the app, and can open the books, but the " read to Me" does not work. My grandchildren are 5 & 2 and love to listen to books.. Any suggestions to get this to work? The volume on my Nexus works good for games etc. Will have to again play around with it, and see what I can accomplish..

# 11 Library and Reference

I am so glad to see the "elm4you" website now responds to any device's screen size. Schools in our area have all the students using Ipads, so now they have no excuse to use Elm for their research. With all the new devices being used all apps need to be mobile friendly. I did bookmark the Elm Portal on my Android device. I will definitely share this information with our students doing research. Our Library system does prescribe to Overdrive and Zinio, so I am acquainted with how they work.

# 10 Sharing Photos

I love sharing photos, so I learned a lot off fun things by downloading the "Instagram App".  I am a little disappointed in the app, but may need to spend some more time on it. I did share a photo from my gallery to facebook through the Instagram App. Much like the Photo Editer app. that I just downloaded?  I did go a step further and also downloaded the Pic Collage app. Now this I will use. Made a collage of pictures from my gallery, added a heart sticker ( was glad to see some FREE stickers that could be downloaded)  I definitely encourage everyone to download the Pic Collage app...

# 9 Taking and Editing Photos

I would love to try all the suggested apps, they all sound pretty cool! But I will download 1 for now, and give it a try. I downloaded LINE camera. I edited a photo that was already on my device, cropped it, put a frame around it, and tried to share on my Blog, well that did not work....By the end of my 23 Mobile Things you should be able to see it on my blog! (I'm hoping). I was not thrilled with the app, so I will also download the "Photo Editor" app and see if I like that one better, as I love enhancing my photos, especially the ones of my grandchildren!!

# 8 Social Media Management Tools

Social Media sites that I have an account with are: Facebook, (which usually I look at daily), Google +, (which I just started using and discovering more of its options) and LinkedIn, (which I seldom sign in to, as I need to learn more about this app.
I planned on downloading the "Cloze" app, but after looking at some of the reviews, I chose not to venture with this app, sounds like it may have some problems.  I did download "HootSuite", created and account and connected my Facebook account to it. Could be something that I may use on a daily base, but need to play around with it to figure out all it's features!!

# 7 Content Saving & Sharing

I was pretty excited when I saw what was under Content Saving and Sharing..I thought, this is one project that I actually know something about.  Pinterest...I have 39 Boards, 644 pins, 30 followers, and 74 following. I follow friends, Libraries, Magazines...I love this app and have found many, many projects that may take me years to complete! My favorite is the recipes!!!

# 6 Creating & Editing Docs

I chose to discover "CloudOn" for my app.
I downloaded the app, and set up an account. I did not have a "Dropbox" account so went ahead and set one up...then I realized that I must have a "GoogleDrive" account, so also set that up. I did have a couple documents in my Google Drive that appeared in my "CloudOn" app. Interesting...this should be great as I do not log on to my home computer as much now, since I have my Nexus. This should be a great app, being able to bring up documents that I type on my home computer...I am learning so much!!!

# 5 Notetaking

My choice for this task was "Springpad"
What a good choice...Couldn't ask for a better scrapbook-style task managing checklist - making app. This app can do just about anything. I just added some titles that I want to read in the future to "My Books"  Now I will not forget the titles, like I normally do...great app!! I will give it 5 stars!

Love This....

# 4 Keeping up..

I downloaded "ZITE" the Smart Personal Magazine.
This app was definitely easy to set up.
Loved the choice of topics to pick from...since I am into fitness, healthy foods, decorating, crafts and of course books, the topics I chose were: Healthy Living, movies, fitness, books, home decorating, crafts and movie reviews. Wow, the information on the topics I selected was great, and amazed as how fast the info was there for me to read. Now I can spend hours reading up on what interests me. This is definitely one App that I will keep on my Nexus.  A big "Thumbs Up"!

# 3...Utilities

I love the Google Search app, I use it all the time on my Nexus 7. I have just discovered the Google+, and am currently uploading my pictures.  Since I am familiar with the Google app, I chose to do some research on the "Google Goggles" app. I downloaded the app, but have no front - facing camera, so it is kinda hard to take pictures. I played around with it taking pictures of barcodes etc. It seems to be a very interesting app, and will definitely play around with this one...So much we do not know!!!!

Another day off for the school children...

Thursday January 16....

Thing # 2...Mobile Device Tips

Love the simple tips....so simple but need a refresher course to remember them. I have a Nexus 7 and I know there are some tools on there that I did not know about.  Love the picture lock!! Not that I need that security, but am going to try it (just for fun).  I-pad to iOS 7 is very interesting. That may need to be my next investment? As far as a phone, no smart phone for me...just a plain old cell-phone that I can talk and text on. Where will we be a few years down the road? Kinda scary...
